Jillian Bass Studio is textile and design studio in Brooklyn, New York. Jillian is a graphic designer during the day at an arts institution and weaver by night (and weekends). She began her exploration of tapestry weaving in February 2015 on a cardboard loom. Jillian finds that weaving bridges the gap between design and art. She is inspired by design, art history, and process.

I don't usually share personal posts on this Instagram, but I just needed to get this out to as many as possible! •••••
My heart is breaking over the devastation in my hometown Houston, Texas. They have been experiencing unprecedented flooding from Hurricane Harvey. For those of y'all not familiar with Houston it's the fourth largest city in the U.S. located in Southeast Texas near the Gulf of Mexico. At about the size of the state of Delaware with three times the population of the borough of Manhattan, it's a huge metropolitan area with a diverse population. The city has had their fair share of hurricanes and tropical storms over the years, but nothing has been like this--with major flooding in almost every corner of the city. Even the part of town where my family is, which is about 30 miles outside of the city center and 100 miles from the coast is experiencing flooding. That's how widespread this is.

But the one thing that puts a smile on my face is seeing everyone's neighbors helping each other. This is Texas at its best. If you're a Texas expat like me or just want to help, you can donate to help expedite the relief effort. The @houstonfoodbank is accepting monetary donations online--$25 provides 75 meals to those in need following Hurricane Harvey. The Red Cross is also accepting $10 donations via text message. Text REDCROSS to 90999. And please keep Houstonians and Texans in your thoughts and prayers! They will very much appreciate it!
It's been awhile since I've posted anything...like 2 months! This summer has been much busier than I expected it to be and have not been weaving as much as I thought I'd be! This is a simple piece I've been working on very slowly in the background. Hopefully this fall will be a little slower so I can make some more time for weaving!
Weekend weaving
Got this off the loom last week. I wanted to clean up my studio a bit and use some yarn I didn't like. But I love how this turned out! Plus, it matches my pillows.
